Our shared school vision

To support all children and young people to hold their rightful place in society, equipped with the knowledge to shape their own futures, skills to lead an enriched and healthy life and voices to make a positive contribution in the world.

In Willow Class, we strive towards our shared vision by:

  • Providing bespoke activities and therapies to meet children's individual needs.
  • Creating an environment which allows for communication, socialisation, physical development, exploration and learning.
  • Providing outdoor learning and activities daily.
  • Encouraging sensory alignment through therapies.
  • Ensuring learning is active, purposeful and fun!

Our Curriculum

We believe in a broad and balanced ‘no limits’ curriculum that develops and nurtures life-long learning, builds interests, is meaningful and imaginative and promotes togetherness in the school and wider community. It is happy-centred; driven by confidence, positive relationships, support, coping skills and achievement and success.


In the Autumn term, we will strive towards developing the following skills:

  • Identify the correct object by sound eg. point to dog when ‘woof’ is said.
  • Hand an adult an object or symbol from a choice of 3.
  • Copy some sounds eg. stamping, babbling, a word or sign.
  • Identify the sound heard and discriminate between two sounds.
  • Match identical pictures.
  • Select pictures or symbols when presented in a familiar way.
  • Look at a picture and begin to point to objects.
  • Use index finger to make marks.
  • Begin to draw lines in vertical or horizontal.
  • Travel with a PECS card to an adult or peer.
  • Construct a PECs sentence and exchange the strip.
  • Show understanding of 1:1 correspondence in practical contexts.
  • Rote count up to 5 through vocalisation, signing, gesturing to the number in different counting activities.
  • Match and compare big and small things.
  • Match simple patterns.
  • Manipulate 3D shapes during practical activities.
  • Ask for help when prompted by a familiar adult.
  • Use a tool to decorate a structure.
  • Attempt to receive a ball coming towards us.
  • Attempt to catch a ball.
  • Hit a stationary ball with a bat.
  • Propel a ball in three different ways such as; throw, roll, kick, push.
  • Throw a ball at a target such as a hoop, basket or box.
  • Approach new activities and experiences with a positive attitude.
  • Ask for help when prompted by a familiar adult.
  • Make vocal sounds into a microphone or voice changer and recognise that it is us making the sounds.
  • Say hello/bye (or appropriate greeting) when presented with a video call from a familiar person.
  • Take a picture using a phone/tablet.
  • Change materials.
  • Begin to categorise objects according to property eg. size, colour.
  • Begin to use more complex actions eg. twisting, tearing, folding, turning materials.
  • Match object to picture by colour.
  • Develop sensory alignment.
  • Tolerate new environments.
  • Match parts of objects that fit together, eg. put lid on teapot
  • Make simple structures with adult support.

Things to remember:

Sometimes we get a little messy in Willow as we are active learners who develop through exploration!  'Mucky kids are happy kids!".
